This week I decided to take a different approach with my Inspirational Quote of the Week. Usually I talk about the law of attraction, purpose, gratitude, or intuition. Today I want to talk about food because I am on day 8 of a 10 day fast. Being on this fast makes me think of all the medications out there that people depend on. It is unfortunate because food truly is medicine, and a better one at that. I know of people who have gotten off of medications because they changed their diets.
One of my favorite ways to start my day is with a green smoothie or a green juice. I include fruits and vegetables in both. I don't always juice on a daily basis, but when I do, I feel really good. If my juicer was as easy to clean as my Nutribullet, I would probably juice every day of the year. Instead of coffee to wake up in the morning, I like to drink juice. All my cells feel rejuvenated and energized when I drink fresh juice.
I could say similar things about eating a large salad for lunch. I load on a variety of vegetables, a protein like nuts, seeds, beans or tofu, and a homemade dressing. Depending on the salad I may add some dried cranberries. After I eat a salad like that I feel satiated, but not heavy. It is easy and natural to eat this way.
I will be talking about my fast in a detox post in the upcoming weeks, but what I will say is that every time I have gone on a cleanse, I feel incredible. I get rid of all the toxins in my body. I feel refreshed and renewed. I will always look to alternatives before going on any medication. Everything we need to heal and repair ourselves is in the food we eat, especially if we use it as a preventative. Food is medicine.
