Making your own trail mix can be much healthier and cheaper than buying store-bought. You can control the ingredients, and customize it to your tastes.
I looked up a well known trail mix found in many stores. The ingredients included partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, corn syrup, skim milk and cornstarch.
Here I have made healthy Trail Mix with homemade granola and some of the ingredients that I love and happen to have in my pantry.
The possibilities for making your own are endless. It can be eaten straight from the jar, made into bars, topped on soy or coconut yogurt or topped with almond milk.

- 1 cup Vanilla Almond Granola
- ¼ cup chocolate chips or cacao nibs
- ¼ cup nuts - I used whole almonds and pecans
- ¼ cup sliced almonds
- ½ cup dried cranberries
- ¼ cup seeds - I used sunflower and pumpkin
- ¼ cup finely shredded unsweetened coconut
- Mix all ingredients together in a bowl or jar.
- Store in an airtight container.
