Tropical Island in a Bowl
One of my favorite fruit combinations is mango, pineapple, and banana. This Tropical Acai Bowl has just that. Upon diving in, I was whisked away to a tropical island in my imagination. If only a breakfast bowl could actually transport me to a tropical island – that would be heavenly.
Besides tropical fruit, I added coconut chips and homemade coconut granola for even more tropical flavor. One of the great things about smoothie bowls is that they are customizable. You can add fruit, nuts, seeds, granola, or protein powder.
If you have never had acai before, it is a reddish-purple berry which is native to the rainforests of Central and South America. It contains antioxidants, fiber and heart-healthy fats.
Acai comes in many forms: puree, juice, powder, tea, and pills. I have only had the frozen puree and the juice. I may have to check out the powder one of these days since it would be convenient for traveling.
Acai contains fat, so it goes rancid quickly, which is why you will not find fresh acai berries in the U.S.
Dessert for Breakfast
An acai bowl is one of those healthy treats that make you feel like you are eating dessert for breakfast. It tastes like ice cream, but is guilt free. Starting my day with a healthy “dessert” for breakfast, yes please!
If you have never had a smoothie bowl or acai bowl before, it is similar to a smoothie but thicker. It is also similar in that you can customize it to your tastes.
The one thing that I like to do differently with my smoothie bowl is add some crunch; cacao nibs, granola, or coconut flakes. I also like to add fresh fruit on top.
Easy to Make
This acai bowl is really easy to make, just like a smoothie. You blend frozen acai puree, frozen pineapple and mango, some plant based milk, and a little sweetener. You then top it with sliced banana, chopped pineapple, mango, coconut chips, coconut flakes, and coconut granola. Now that’s a lot of coconut!

Tropical Acai Bowl
- 1 (3.5) ounce frozen acai puree packet
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 1/4 cup frozen pineapple
- 1/4 cup chopped mango
- 1/4 cup unsweetened vanilla coconut milk beverage
- 2 teaspoons agave syrup
- Coconut Granola
- Coconut chips
- Sliced banana
- Sliced mango
- Finely shredded coconut
- Chopped pineapple
- Blend all ingredients in a Nutribullet, or blender. Top with coconut granola, sliced banana, sliced mango, coconut flakes, and chopped pineapple.
