This festive Vegan Red, White, and Blue Smoothie is just in time for the 4th of July! It is a healthy way to start your day!
I will be the first to admit that when it comes to planning and posting recipes for holidays, I am a major procrastinator. Because of this, there have been many missed opportunities. The longer I blog, the better I get about not putting it off. So I figure give myself a couple more years I will have it down pat.
For 4th of July this year, I have for you a Vegan Red, White, and Blue Smoothie, and I am even posting it early! I think 4th of July is probably one of the easiest holidays to come up with a recipe for. There are so many red, white, and blue healthy foods. The biggest challenge I found was getting the colors to be the way I wanted.
The red is still a bit pink, but it tastes great so I can't complain!
Healthy
For the blue layer I used wild blueberries. I tried the larger sized blueberries first but found wild blueberries worked better. They are not only sweeter, but they blend better as well. To add more sweetness, I added a half of a frozen banana.
I added chocolate protein powder, which to my surprise made the blue a deeper hue. Besides protein, it adds probiotics, vitamins, minerals, greens, and fiber.
The white layer has coconut yogurt to add more probiotics, and another half a banana for more sweetness. The red layer is loaded with antioxidants from cherries and strawberries.
Easy
Smoothies are about the easiest breakfast that you can make. To get the separate layers, you just put the smoothie in the freezer each time that you add another layer.
If you were to ask me what food I could not live without, I think that I would have to say smoothies. I have one every morning, unless I am creating a recipe for the blog. They are a great healthy way to start the day.
