Life has been a bit more hectic than usual, and when that happens I reach for snacks that I can take on-the-go. That's why I created these Cookie Dough Protein Bites.
I found myself buying mini protein bars and cookie dough protein balls and decided it was time I save some money and create my own.
I honestly can say I prefer my homemade cookie dough protein balls over the store-bought brand I tried.
They are softer, sweeter, and have similar ingredients and about the same amount of protein.
Other snacks with protein are my Homemade Soy Curls Jerky, Maple Chipotle Cashews, and Crispy BBQ Roasted Chickpeas.

❤️ Why You'll Love It
- Made with only 6 ingredients, they're super easy to make.
- They are a sweet treat that you can take on-the-go.
- Made with protein powder they will fill you up.
🧾 Ingredients

- Peanut butter: I used creamy all natural peanut butter. The shelf-stable variety would also work. You could also use almond butter, cashew butter, sunflower seed butter, or your favorite.
- Protein powder: I used a vanilla vegan protein powder with pea protein and sweeteners. I tried this recipe with Orgain Protein Boost powdered drink mix in vanilla (from Trader Joe's) and Vega Essential Protein in vanilla. I liked the Orgain Protein Boost better. The Vega had too strong of a vanilla flavor. Use your favorite protein powder, just keep in mind the amount of sweetness it adds and adjust accordingly (see my notes in the recipe card).
- Almond flour: You could also use oat flour. When I ran out of almond flour, I started making this with rolled oats that I ground into flour.
- Maple syrup: Adds a sweet maple flavor. You could also use agave syrup, brown rice syrup, dates, or your favorite sweetener.
- Salt: Enhances sweetness. I like to use sea salt.
- Chocolate chips: I used 72% dark chocolate chips. You could also use semi-sweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate baking chunks.

🔪 Instructions

Step 1: Add all ingredients except chocolate chips into a large mixing bowl.

Step 2: Mix to combine. I like to start with a spoon, and then use my hands to mix. It will be a consistency similar to play dough.

Step 3: Fold in chocolate chips. They will stick into the dough better once they are made into balls and refrigerated.

Step 4: Roll into 1 ¼" balls. Refrigerate or freeze.
💭 Tips
- The chocolate chips will stick into dough better once they are made into balls and refrigerated.
- The amount of protein will depend on the protein powder you use.
- I recommend using a vanilla protein powder instead of plain for flavor.
- The protein powder you use will determine the sweetness. I tried this recipe with a protein powder sweetened with stevia, and one that was sweetened with sugar and stevia. The later was not as sweet as the one sweetened with just stevia. You may want to start with less maple syrup, taste the mixture and if it's sweet enough for you but the dough is dry, add a splash or two of plant-based milk or water.
🥡 Storage
These cookie dough protein balls will last about 1 week in an airtight container in the fridge, and several months in the freezer.
