These sweet and spicy BBQ Roasted Chickpeas are a healthy crunchy snack. They're perfect for on-the-go!

Roasted chickpeas are the perfect snack if you're looking for healthy snack options. They are crispy and crunchy; perfect for on top of salads or eaten by themselves.
Add them to a trail mix or cereal snack mix. They make a great after-school snack.
The BBQ seasoning is out of this world good. I've also used it on BBQ Kale Chips.
While you are at it, make some Chickpea Sandwich Spread, Sweet and Spicy Chipotle Roasted Chickpeas, Nacho Kale Chips, or Ranch Kale Chips.

🧾 Ingredients
This is an overview of the ingredients. To see the full list of ingredients with measurements and instructions, see the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Chickpeas (garbanzo beans): I used canned chickpeas that I rinsed and drained.
- BBQ seasoning: I used a homemade BBQ seasoning with ingredients like chipotle powder for a spicy smoky flavor and brown sugar for sweetness. You could adjust it to your liking or use your favorite BBQ spice mix.
- Olive oil: To distribute the BBQ seasoning and cook the chickpeas.

🔪 Instructions
- Mix BBQ seasoning: chipotle powder, brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, dry mustard powder, salt and pepper. Set aside.
- Drain garbanzo beans and dry between two clean towels. Roll one of the towels over the garbanzo beans to remove as many of the skins as possible and dry them thoroughly.
- Toss garbanzo beans and olive oil. Spread out on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
- Bake until crispy. Toss with BBQ seasoning.
🥡 Storage
If they are thoroughly dried (make sure to remove those skins!), roasted until crunchy, and stored in an airtight container they will last longer than two weeks.
I had a batch of roasted chickpeas that lasted a little over a month. They might have lasted longer had I not finished them off.
💠Tips
- You may be tempted to skip the drying process, but it helps because the skins hold a lot of water.
- As always, taste as you go. You may want more or less spice of the BBQ seasoning. You can always add more, but you can't take it away. If you don't like your food too spicy, start with less and go from there.
- It's important to add the seasoning after roasting the chickpeas because otherwise the seasoning burns on the chickpeas.
