This Guacamole with Baked Tortilla Chips is the appetizer you're going to want for the Super Bowl.

Made in minutes with a sheet pan and a mixing bowl, I'll show you how to make it perfect every single time.

These baked tortilla chips are much healthier than fried tortilla chips, and frankly, a lot better. I only added salt to enjoy the guacamole flavors, but you could spice them up by adding some cayenne and chili powder.

    ❤️ Why You'll Love It

    • It is a healthy hearty snack for game day.
    • It is simple and easy to make.
    • It's made in less than 30 minutes with simple ingredients.

    🧾 Ingredients

Ingredients on a cutting board with labels.

    Guacamole

    • Avocados: I like to buy avocados that are nearly ripe so that they're ripe a couple of days later. Nearly ripe avocados have a green-purple skin that's firm to the touch. When they're ripe they'll have a purple-black skin that is slightly soft to the touch and the stem will easily pop off. You'll see green flesh underneath, letting you know it's ripe.
    • Lime juice: I used key lime juice when I published this recipe and regular lime juice when I updated it. Either are good. Key lime juice is sweeter flavor than other varieties. I do not recommend store-bought lime juice because it contains additives.
    • Salt: Enhances flavors. I like to use sea salt.
    • Serrano pepper: Adds spice. For less spice remove the seeds and ribs or use a jalapeño. You may want to wear gloves when handling it. At the very least make sure to thoroughly wash your hands after chopping it.
    • Tomato: I used a Roma tomato when I published this recipe and a vine tomato when I updated it. Vine tomatoes are great because they ripen on the vine. When picking tomatoes they should be firm but not hard and have a slightly sweet scent. They should be free of dark spots and bruises. You could leave them out if desired.
    • Onions: I used a yellow onion. You could also use a white onion, red onion, or green onion.
    • Cilantro: To me it's not guacamole without cilantro, but I know some people don't like it. You can leave it out.

    Baked Tortilla Chips

    • Tortillas: I used corn tortillas when I published this recipe, but since posting this found out I have a corn intolerance. When I republished this recipe I used cassava flour tortillas. I love the way they came out; the flavor is much better than brown rice tortillas, which I've made into a tortilla pizza and tortilla chips. Cooking times will vary depending on the tortillas.
    • Olive oil: I used both olive oil and coconut oil spray for this recipe. Both work.
    • Salt: Enhances flavors. I like to use sea salt.

    📖 Variations / Additions

    • Serrano Salsa or your favorite store-bought salsa
    • Spices: cumin, chili powder, cayenne pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder
    • Fruit: pineapple, mango, or strawberries
    • Red bell pepper
    • Tofu Sour Cream

    • ½ cup chopped Roma tomato

    • Salt
    US Customary - Metric

    Instructions

    Guacamole

    • Mash avocados, lime juice, and salt together with a fork.
    • Fold in serrano pepper, tomato, onion, and cilantro.

    Baked Tortilla Chips

    • Slice tortillas into fourths.
    • Spray a parchment lined baking sheet with olive oil. Place tortilla wedges on sheet. Bake at 400°F for 10-20 minutes, flipping halfway through. Bake until golden around the edges. Sprinkle salt on top while still hot.

    Notes

I have noticed that cooking time for tortilla chips really depends upon the thickness of your tortillas. My corn tortillas are so fresh that they are still hot from the place where I buy them.
They are also thin and pliable - perfect for Vegan Taquitos. They take longer to cook than a lot of corn tortillas, so keep that in mind when baking your tortillas.
When I updated this recipe I used cassava flour tortillas, which took only 10 minutes total to bake.
The guacamole will last 3-4 days in an airtight container in the fridge. The tortilla chips will last about a week in a zip-lock baggie or an airtight container in the pantry.

Also, I tend to eat a lot less tortilla chips when I make my own. That way I have a visual of how many I will be eating.
