Sweet chocolate vegan ice cream for breakfast? Yes, please! This Chocolate Acai Bowl makes you feel like you are eating dessert for breakfast.
My go-to breakfast usually consists of a chocolate smoothie with frozen banana, spinach, chocolate Vega One Nutritional Shake, and water. Sometimes I add frozen berries as well.
It has been my go-to breakfast for quite a long time, but now this chocolate acai bowl is giving it some competition.
Another acai bowl is my Acai Berry Bowl.

What Does Acai Taste Like?
If you have never had acai before, the juice and the puree (the only two forms that I've tried) have a sweet, tart, fruity flavor. I should note that both the juice and the puree have added sugar, so they are probably quite a bit sweeter than fresh acai berries.
You can buy unsweetened puree and powder, but I have yet to try them.
I've read that fresh acai berries taste like a cross between a raspberry and a dark piece of chocolate. The berries are not available in the U.S. because they go rancid quickly due to their high-fat content.
Now I just need to book a vacation to the Amazon rainforest so that I can try the fresh berries! Acai is available in frozen puree, juice, energy drinks, sorbet, and powdered form.
❤️ Why You'll Love It
- It tastes like dessert, but it's quite healthy.
- You can customize it to your liking.
- It's made in about 5 minutes.
🧾 Ingredients

- Acai puree: I buy Acai packets at Costco. You could also use acai powder or acai juice.
- Cacao powder: Adds chocolate flavor. You could also use cocoa powder.
- Soy milk: You can use any plant-based milk.
- Dates: Adds sweetness. You could also use maple syrup, or agave syrup, or leave it out.
- Frozen banana: Adds sweetness and a creamy texture. I like to keep bananas in my freezer for my daily smoothie. Peel them when ripe, and break them in half or slice, then freeze.

💭 Tips
The trick to making a good smoothie bowl is a balance of frozen to liquid. You only need a small amount of liquid to get the consistency you are looking for - which is similar to soft serve ice cream.
Can It Be Kept Overnight in The Freezer?
You could, but I don't recommend it. Smoothie bowls are best made fresh. When you freeze it the texture isn't as creamy.
