These Herbed Gluten Free croutons will take your salad to the next level. They're also an addicting snack!

These homemade Herbed Gluten Free Croutons are great on a salad that has an herb based dressing, like Vegan Ranch Dressing or Basil Dill Vinaigrette. They are also good by themselves.
You might as well make double the batch because you'll be eating them before they have even cooled off.
Homemade croutons elevate a salad to another level. If you ever find yourself getting sick of your favorite go-to salad, then switch up the dressing, add some homemade croutons, and a different protein, and it will feel like a whole new salad.
I love to add dried cranberries and baked tofu to mine. Just adding a couple of really great ingredients gives a salad that special touch.
The dressing brings it all together, so it better be a good one in my book.

This is an overview of the ingredients. To see the full list of ingredients with measurements and instructions, see the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Gluten free bread: I used my favorite gluten-free bread. Since posting this recipe I found a gluten-free sour dough bread that I love. Sour dough is a great bread to use for croutons.
- Olive oil: Make the croutons crispy and add flavor.
- Thyme, rosemary, oregano, basil: Add the herby flavor. You could use your favorite blend.
- Onion powder and garlic powder: Add a salty pungent flavor. I did not add salt and pepper because the onion powder and garlic powder add a salty flavor, but you could add salt and pepper as well.

Making homemade gluten-free croutons is a good way to use up slightly stale bread, but it's not necessary. I have made these herbed croutons with both fresh brown rice bread and millet chia bread.
While I prefer the brown rice bread for these croutons, both were good. Since posting this recipe, I found a new bread that would work even better.

❄️ Can I Freeze Croutons?
If you want to make a double batch and freeze them, no problem. Just let them cool and place in a freezer bag.
When you are ready to eat them, pull out the amount needed, let them thaw 15 minutes. Toast them to crisp them up if needed.
💭 Tips
- If you don't plan on using all the croutons right away, you can bake them for a few minutes to crisp them up again, if needed. If you keep them in an air tight container, they should stay crispy.
- Alternatively, you can mix together just the herbs and make them in small batches each time you want some.
- I personally like making the whole batch because I end up eating most of them before they even hit my salad.
Homemade vegan croutons are a great way to elevate your salad. They also add flavor and crunch to a creamy Tomato Soup.
