This healthy Vegan Matcha Latte provides you with a focused sense of calm. Made with almond milk and coconut milk.
Welcome to my latest craze! I've been hearing so much about matcha green tea that I had to try it for myself. This Vegan Matcha Latte is one of my favorite ways to get the healthy powder into my system. The other way is to add it to my morning smoothie.
I've been drinking matcha green tea for about six months or so. It is my caffeinated drink of choice.
If you have never had matcha green tea before, you should probably be forewarned that it is an acquired taste. It has a sweet and savory taste. I personally think it tastes a little like seaweed, which I happen to like, so that's fine with me.
Matcha green tea is grown differently than regular green tea. It is also made from the whole leaf, and has about ten times the amount of antioxidants as brewed green tea.
Even though it has caffeine, it also has L-Theanine, which has calming and relaxing properties, which helps you to focus. Because of the nutrients it contains, you will feel a sense of endurance that can last up to six hours. Matcha tea doesn't give you the jitters like some people feel after drinking coffee.
Regular green tea makes me feel nauseous, especially on an empty stomach, but Matcha green tea does not. Maybe it's because it contains the whole leaf.
Matcha green tea is usually made with a traditional bamboo whisk, which I still have yet to buy. Instead, I blend my matcha latte in my Nutribullet, which works great.
When I first made it, I tried whisking it with a fork, which left residue at the bottom of the mug.
The old saying "you get what you pay for" applies to matcha green tea. I've read that the best quality comes from Japan, where matcha green tea originated. I have only tried three different brands so far, so I can't really comment on the best matcha green teas.
I have tried the universal quality and the ceremonial quality. There's also a culinary quality.
If you're someone who doesn't like the coffee jitters, you may want to try Matcha green tea. And if you don't like the taste, you could always add it to your morning smoothie to still get the healthy benefits.
You could also buy Matcha tea flavored with ginger. I tried it and really liked the flavor.

Does this need to be made with a specific matcha powder?
I have Tenzo Tea’s organic matcha but a lot of them look the same
Willow Moon says
No it doesn't. I do look for matcha that's good quality - not cooking quality. I have tried several brands and they all worked well for a latte.

And like I said, if you don't like the taste, then add it to your smoothies so that you still get the benefits. You won't even taste it in a smoothie.

Ok, I think you've convinced me to try matcha. I've read about the health benefits, but it has always just seemed like too much work. But your recipe makes it look so easy! Thank you!
Willow Moon says
Thanks Samantha,! It is actually quite easy, especially when you have a Nutribullet or high speed blender!
