โค๏ธ Why You'll Love It
- Made in minutes with only two ingredients, making your own homemade date paste couldn't be any easier!
- It's a healthy substitute for white sugar because it doesn't contain refined sugars and it's full of fiber and nutrients.
๐งพ Ingredients
- Pitted dates: I used Medjool dates because they are soft and sweet. You could use any type of date you like. I buy whole dates from my local grocery store found in the aisle with the other dried fruits. Whole Foods and health food stores sell them and you can order them online.
- Water: Thins out the paste.

๐ช Instructions
Step 1: Soak dates in hot water. If you have fresh dates, you may not need to soak them. Drain the soaking water.
Step 2: Add the soaked dates and water to a high-speed blender or food processor.
Step 3: Blend until smooth and creamy. Store it in a glass jar or other airtight container.
๐ญ Tips
- Make sure to remove the hard stems (and pits) before blending.
- Start with less water until you get the perfect consistency.
โ๏ธ Can You Freeze It?
You can freeze it so that you always have some on hand.
I like to cover a mini muffin pan with plastic wrap and spoon a tablespoonful of it into each hole (photo above). That way it is less messy and easier to clean up.
You could also freeze date paste in an ice cube tray.
How to Use Date Paste
Date paste is a great natural sugar substitute. Use it in place of sugar, brown sugar, coconut sugar, agave syrup, maple syrup, or honey.
The different ways I like to use this date puree is to add it to coffee, bars, vegan unsweetened plain yogurt, and smoothies.
I've tried this easy date paste recipe in my Vegan Blondies with Chickpeas recipe and Vegan Black Bean Brownies. I haven't tried it in any cookie recipes yet, so I cannot comment on the results.
