Many years ago I made one of my favorite salads, a Roasted Butternut and Beetroot Salad. It was so good and was such a hit on the blog that I figured I'd post the creamy dressing by itself.
The recipe below is slightly different than the original because I lacked a few of the ingredients. So I put the ingredients for the original in parentheses so you have options.
This easy dressing is a great addition to grain bowls, Buddha bowls, and salads. It also tastes great on Roasted Brussels Sprouts.
Use it as a dipping sauce for roasted veggies. The sweetness of the maple syrup is a nice contrast to the savory nutty tahini.
Maple and tahini are a great combination. I've used it in a Maple Tahini Latte as well. It may sound strange, but trust me it is delicious!

โค๏ธ Why You'll Love It
- It is sweet, savory, and creamy, with the perfect balance of flavors.
- Maple and tahini are a match made in heaven.
- It's an easy recipe that is made in minutes with simple ingredients you probably already have on hand.
๐งพ Ingredients
- Tahini (sesame paste): Adds a creamy texture and rich nutty flavor. It's found next to peanut butter in grocery stores. My local Sprout's carries it as does Whole Foods. You can also order it online.
- Pure maple syrup: For a sweet maple flavor.
- Apple cider vinegar: Adds a sweet acidic flavor. You could also use balsamic vinegar.
- Water: Thins the dressing.
- Extra virgin olive oil: Adds flavor. You could also use walnut oil, avocado oil, or sesame oil (it has a strong flavor, so you only need a little bit).
- Fresh lemon juice: Adds a bright tart flavor. You could also use lime juice.

๐ช Instructions
Step 1: Add tahini, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, water, olive oil, lemon juice, and salt to a large bowl.
Step 2: Whisk until smooth and creamy. Store in an airtight container or mason jar in the fridge.
๐ญ Tips
- If you like really thick dressings, start with less water until you get your desired consistency.
- To use this salad dressing as a dip, start with less water or none at all. If you refrigerate it overnight, it will thicken up.
- If the dressing separates from sitting in the fridge, let it sit at room temperature until the olive oil thins out, and shake it up.
- If you're using a new container of tahini, turn the container upside down overnight before opening. The oils will mix with the paste and make it much easier to stir.
๐ฝ Serving
- Drizzle on a sweet and savory salad. Any salad with dried cranberries, berries, pomegranate seeds, sweet potato, or roasted butternut squash works well in addition to savory flavors like marinated and baked tofu, beans, nuts, or seeds.
- Drizzled over roasted veggies.
- In place of tahini dressing for falafels.
๐ฉ๐ปโ๐ณ Recipe FAQs
Tahini is basically ground sesame seeds. It's made by grinding sesame seeds until a thick paste forms that is smooth and creamy. It's like peanut butter but with sesame seeds. It's found in Middle Eastern cuisine and used in recipes like baba ganoush.
