These crispy Baked Tofu Fries are really addictive. These are good enough to eat by themselves, but I love to eat them with Raspberry Chipotle Ketchup, which is smoky and spicy.
If you have never had Baked Tofu Fries, you are in for a treat! When extra firm tofu is baked, it becomes crispy on the outside while staying soft on the inside. When you add spices, the tofu takes on those flavors.
I hear so many people say that they don't like tofu. I say that they haven't prepared it the right way.
I think that if more people tried it baked or fried with herbs and spices, and a great sauce, they would fall in love with it. When it is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, it is irresistible!
It can even be made into Baked Tofu Nuggets and Tofu Bacon.
Of course, I love it in other ways as well, like in a Tofu Scramble and Black Bean Breakfast Burrito, Tofu Ricotta, or Chocolate Pudding with Silken Tofu. It is incredibly versatile.
Tofu is like meat in that it takes on the flavors you add to it. There were many times before I was vegan, when I ate meat that I needed a good sauce to go with it.
In fact, I remember the sauce being the best part of the meal. My grandmother's roast beef, for one, had to be drenched in ketchup!
I guarantee that even tofu haters in your life will love these!
Of course, these are a lot healthier than French fries, and I like them better too. I feel satiated longer since they are high in protein and low in carbs. Since they are baked they are a lot less greasy than French fries.
Not that I will be giving up French Fries forever, but these are a healthy alternative that I can eat as a meal. I ate these low carb Tofu Fries while on a vegan keto diet.

❤️ Why You'll Love Them
- They're crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
- They make a great snack or side dish.
- They are more satiating than fries made with potatoes.
🧾 Ingredients
- Extra firm or firm tofu: I've used both for this recipe. Both work. I like to buy tofu that's packed in water in the refrigerated section of the grocery store.
- Herbs and spices: I used basil, oregano, paprika, cayenne pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. They add a nice flavor with a little spice. Play around with different spices and combinations to see what you like.
- Olive oil: For making the fries crispy and to help the spices to stick.

🔪 Instructions
Step 1: Drain and press the tofu. If you don't have a tofu press, place tofu in between a clean kitchen towel.
Step 2: Place a heavy object, like a cast iron skillet on top. Let sit for about 15 minutes. Slice tofu into long strips.
Step 3: In a large bowl add olive oil, herbs, and spices.
Step 4: Coat the tofu strips in the seasoning mixture.
Step 5: Place the tofu fries on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Bake for 40 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Has anyone tired baking with out parchment paper. I never ever buy it. But I don't want to have a disaster of tofu sticking horribly to a sheet
Willow Moon says
You could oil the baking sheet first. It should be fine.
Julie says
An easy baked tofu recipe that is great on its own or can be used in so many dishes: on salads, in sandwiches, in tacos, on pasta, on nachos, as nuggets, the options are endless, use these everywhere!
lena says
i'm trying to cut down on oils and calories. do you think this would work in an air-fryer?
Willow Moon says
Most definitely! I don't own an air fryer, but I've seen a few tofu recipes that use an air fryer to get tofu crispy.
Jessica says
I’m going to try this (oil free because there is no good oil, fats yes, oils are processed crap) for a vegan charcuterie Im making for a bunch of omnis. Want to show how tasty tofu is that’s not hidden in a dish!! I think this will do the trick.
But I also wanted to comment, I saw this caveat
‘Different nutrition calculators give you different results.’
A calculator should always give you the same results. It’s the food item that may vary in calories. If you enter in the nutritional value of each item, that will provide the proper breakdown. Always enter the food you are using for nutritional value, never go by some random online tool.
Caroline says
I tried making these last night and they came out really rubbery instead of crispy. The only way I have ever been able to get tofu to get crispy is with corn starch. The taste was good, but I am not sure what I did wrong to get the texture like that!
Willow Moon says
Hi Caroline, I'm sorry you're not getting them to come out right. Did you use extra firm tofu and drain and press it? The only other thing I can think of is you could have baked them longer. All ovens are different, so maybe they needed more time.
Caroline says
Thanks Willow!
I baked them for 20 minutes on each side. I did use firm tofu (I think it marked it as 4/6 on firmness) and drained and pressed it. I had pressed it several days prior and had it in a ziplock bag wrapped in paper towels so maybe I pressed it too long or I need an even firmer tofu? The only other thing I could think of is that I increased the temp to 400 the second 20 minutes because I was cooking something else simultaneously that needed that temperature, so maybe it was too hot. I will try to find a firmer tofu and make these again to report results. Thanks for your help!
Willow Moon says
I don't think the increase in temperature would make a huge difference. I know different brand of tofu can produce different results too. I always buy the ones in water - Wildwood, I believe.
Jackie says
Have you ever reheated these? I want to eat them for lunch but don't know how I'd keep them warm at work!
Willow Moon says
Yes I've reheated them in the microwave, which worked great. They stayed crispy.
Casey says
These were easy and delicious. Followed the recipe as is and had no problems. I hope all the people that commented above about how yummy they look, get around to trying them.
Willow Moon says
I'm glad that you liked them!
Stacey says
What sauce should I eat with this baked tofu? I'm not a big fan of chili sauce!
Willow Moon says
You could eat them with marinara sauce since they have Italian seasonings.
Donna says
These are my kids new favorite snack! They beg me to make them when they get home after school. Thanks for the recipe!
